Lucky Stars Strike Twice

EuroMillions players who checked the lottery results for the most recent draw on Friday 14 January might have had cause to look twice, because the Lucky Star numbers were exactly the same as they were the week before! The main numbers were 02, 14, 24, 39 and 44, and all of those numbers were completely different from the previous week’s main numbers, but the Lucky Star numbers of 06 and 07 were the same as they had been seven days earlier. Despite (or perhaps because of) the repeating numbers, no player managed to match all seven numbers to win the jackpot, so there will be €29 million (around £24 million) to play for this Friday.

It isn’t unusual for lottery numbers to appear in two consecutive draws, but this particular occurrence is obviously more noticeable because both of the repeating numbers just happened to be Lucky Stars. From a purely mathematical point of view, every combination of numbers has exactly the same chance of appearing as any other combination, so it is just as likely that this week’s numbers could be exactly the same as last week’s numbers. Of course, when repeating numbers do occur in any quantity it always seems a lot more unusual than it really is.

Although no player matched all 7 numbers to win the EuroMillions jackpot last week, 8 players did match 5 main numbers along with 1 of the Lucky Star numbers, and those fortunate participants won €384,523 (around £273,664) each as a consolation prize. 9 players matched the 5 main numbers but neither of the Lucky Star numbers to win €96,997 (around £69,032) each, and another 84 players matched 4 main numbers and both Lucky Stars to win €7,423 (around £5,283) each. In total, more than 1.62 million EuroMillions prizes were won last Friday, and that doesn’t include the one won by the UK player who won a Millionaire Raffle prize of £1 million by matching the number FHG914404.

The most overdue main numbers for the €29 million rollover draw this Friday 21 January are 18, 37, 25, 26 and 13, and the most overdue Lucky Stars are 09 and 05. Will any of these numbers make an appearance next Friday? Will either of last week’s Lucky Star numbers show up for a third week running? Or will we get a totally different batch of numbers? We won’t know the answers to any of these questions until the draw takes place, so buy your EuroMillions tickets online today and good luck in landing yourself a big prize!
