Single Ticket Wins EuroMillions

The EuroMillions jackpot of €16.5 million (around £14.8 million) on Friday 13 November, 2009, was won by a single ticket. In some countries Friday the 13th is said to be unlucky, but that certainly wasn’t the case for the person who bought the jackpot-winning EuroMillions ticket. The winning numbers that disproved the famous superstition actually included the ‘unlucky’ number – they were 13, 15, 25, 26 and 32, and the two Lucky Star numbers were 03 and 04.

The jackpot winner wasn’t the only player to have some good luck last Friday. Ten players matched the five main numbers and one Lucky Star number to win €383,165 (around £341,675) each. Another 14 players matched the five main numbers only and won €77,668 (around £69,257) each. In total, more than 2.36 million EuroMillions prizes were won.

Last Friday also saw the first ever Millionaire Maker draw for EuroMillions players in the UK. The Millionaire Raffle guarantees that one UK EuroMillions player will become a millionaire each week (thanks to a separate draw that takes place prior to the main EuroMillions draw) so the first such millionaire has now been created. The main EuroMillions jackpot has now been reset and will therefore be worth a minimum of €15 million (around £13 million) this Friday 20 November.
