Would You Go Public If You Won Tonight’s EuroMillions Jackpot?

The EuroMillions jackpot stands at £17 million (€24 million) ahead of tonight’s draw and players across the continent will be eagerly awaiting the game to see if they win a fortune. As well as choosing which numbers to use, how many lines to play and perhaps whether it might be a good idea to join a syndicate, one big decision for winners is whether to go public or remain anonymous.

The UK participant who scooped £35.1 million in the most recent Mega Friday draw on 25th September has recently claimed their prize and decided to keep their identity private. This is an option that is not available to big winners on many other world lotteries and it is easy to understand why you would not want the whole world to know that you had just become a multimillionaire.

However, there are certain reasons why you might want to spread word of your success beyond your immediate friends, family or place of work. The National Lottery will offer full support to winners no matter what option they choose, but going public can sometimes provide big winners with a sense of relief and the opportunity to actively support charity work. Chris and Colin Weir, who won £161 million in July 2011, made several donations with their money and their actions helped raise awareness for the causes they support. Find out more about the pros and cons of going public.

There was a rollover in the last EuroMillions draw on Tuesday night, as nobody managed to match all five numbers plus both Lucky Stars to net the top prize of £11 million (€15 million). It was still a good night for many ticket holders, though, most notably the three Brits who were the only players to match five main numbers plus one Lucky Star to win £233,306 each. Visit the EuroMillions Results section for a full prize breakdown from recent draws.

To be in with a chance of snapping up the jackpot this evening, you will need to purchase a ticket by either playing online or going to an authorised retailer in any of the participating countries. If you pocket one of the top prizes you can weigh up the benefits of staying anonymous or opting for publicity, and then decide how you wish to use your new-found wealth. Good luck!
