Bet Types

Find out more about the different types of bet that are available on Pick 3.

Straight

This is a bet where you try to predict the winning numbers precisely in the right order. It is known as a Straight because it is a simple bet on one particular outcome. To win a Straight bet, your three chosen numbers must match the winning numbers exactly, with each digit in the same position. You can choose to wager $0.50 or $1 per bet.

You can choose any combination of three numbers from 0 to 9. The odds stay the same whichever combination you play:

Combination Example
Three of the same number 111
Three different numbers 456
Two of the same and one different 778

Box

With a Box bet, you pick three numbers which you predict will be selected in the next draw. The order you position those numbers in does not matter – you just need all three of them to be selected to win a prize. It is called a Box because you are effectively boxing up your selections – as long as those numbers appear in any order, you win. The cost of entry is up to you - $0.50 or $1 per bet.

Box bets can be split into two categories – 3-way and 6-way – depending on the combination of numbers you pick:

Box Combination Example
3-way Two of the same number and one different 445
6-way Three different numbers 890

Straight/Box

Playing a Straight/Box gives you the chance to win by matching your numbers in the order you have selected, or in any order. When you place this type of bet, half of your stake is wagered as a Straight and the other half as a Box.

If your numbers come up exactly as you predicted, you win both parts of the bet. If they are selected in any other order, you win just the Box prize. The following table provides examples of whether you would win or not with a certain selection:

Numbers Picked Winning Numbers Drawn Bets Won
123 123 Straight and Box bets won
123 213 Box bet won
123 725 None

Combo

This type of bet combines all the possible Straight bets within your three selected numbers. You can choose whether to bet $0.50 or $1 per combination, and the total cost depends on whether you have chosen a 3-way selection or a 6-way:

Combo Cost of Entry
3-way $1.50 or $3
6-way $3 or $6

Pairs

To place a Pairs bet, you only need to select two numbers rather than three. You need to state whether you are trying to predict the first two numbers out of the three (front pair) or the last two (back pair). You need to match them exactly to win. You can choose whether to bet $0.50 or $1.

Pick 3 Prizes

Frequently Asked Pick 3 Questions

Take a look at the following questions and answers to find out even more about Pick 3.

Do I have to match the winning numbers in the right order?

It depends on the bet type you have chosen. You only win a Straight bet if you match the winning numbers exactly. For example, if you play the numbers 1, 2, and 3, the winning numbers must also be 123, in that order. If the winning numbers are 321, you lose because you have not got the positions correct. However, if you play a Box bet, you win with any combination of the numbers you select.

Are there prizes for matching one or two numbers?

Most play types require you to match all three numbers to win a prize. The only way to win by matching two numbers is to play a Pairs bet and match the two numbers you have selected.

Do prizes roll over if there are no winners?

No. The prizes stay the same in every draw.

Is the prize shared if there are multiple winners?

No. You will win the prize associated with your bet amount even if there are other winners.

Can the same number be drawn more than once?

Yes. Each number is selected from a separate field between 0 and 9. It is therefore possible for the same number to be drawn once, twice or three times in the same draw.
