UK Player Wins £71 Million EuroMillions Jackpot

A UK player has been congratulated after winning £71 million in Friday night’s EuroMillions draw. The lucky ticket holder has already staked a claim for the eight-figure prize, becoming the country’s 15th-largest winner of all time.

The numbers drawn on Friday were 3, 15, 24, 42 and 46, with Lucky Stars 9 and 12. There were over 2.2 million winners across all 13 prize tiers, including 574,988 from the UK. Go to the EuroMillions Results page for a full breakdown, along with details of the winning Millionaire Maker code.

It was quickly announced that the only ticket to match all the winning numbers was sold in the UK, and the player has wasted little time in making contact with the National Lottery. An appointment will now have to be made to validate the claim.

Andy Carter, the National Lottery’s Senior Winners’ Advisor, said: “Wow, this year is turning out to be a lucky one for UK EuroMillions players. We’ve already seen Patrick and Frances Connolly from Northern Ireland bank £114.9 million from the draw on New Year’s Day and we now have another multimillion-pound UK EuroMillions winner.

“This is the 15th-biggest winner this country has ever seen and we look forward to toasting their win.”

Big Winners

The jackpot had previously rolled over six times in a row since a family syndicate from Co Dublin in Ireland scooped a stunning €175 million (£152 million) on Tuesday 19th February. No further information will be released about whether the latest winner is an individual or a syndicate, or where the winning ticket was sold, unless the ticket holder goes public.

All three of the jackpots to have been snapped up since the start of the year have been worth at least £70 million, making it a memorable year for big winners. The UK is the only country to have had more than one jackpot winner in 2019, and has now had 76 in total since EuroMillions launched in 2004.

Chris and Colin Weir from Largs in Scotland landed the UK’s largest prize, £161 million in July 2011, while Adrian and Gillian Bayford banked £148 million the following year. The £114 million claimed by Frances and Patrick Connolly earlier in 2019 ranks as the UK’s fourth-biggest prize.

You need to match five main numbers between 1 and 50, plus two Lucky Stars between 1 and 12, to win the jackpot. It has already happened twice in the UK this year, so why not try and take home the next big prize yourself. Visit any authorised retailer to buy a ticket, or enter online.
