Luck of the Irish

The luck of the Irish may have rubbed off on an American tourist visiting Ireland according to a number of newspaper reports. Rumours are that an American who was in Ireland to attend a wedding bought a EuroMillions ticket for the draw on Friday 04 July, 2008 and ended up winning the €15 million jackpot.

The winning main numbers for the American Independence Day were 7, 19, 22, 27 and 48, whilst the two Lucky Star numbers were 5 and 7. In addition to the single jackpot winner, there were eight tickets that matches five main numbers and one Lucky Star to win €339,048 each.

We won’t know for sure whether or not the latest EuroMillions millionaire was an American tourist until the winner comes forward (and they may well choose to remain anonymous) but there is little doubt that Ireland has certainly been lucky once again.

What we do know is that the winning ticket was bought from Abbey Stores in Carrickbeg, and that the owner, Gerry Fahey, will receive a €25,000 bounty for selling it. Coincidentally, he was out celebrating his refurbished shop being open for six years when he found out about the win.

The jackpot for the next EuroMillions draw has been reset and stands at €15,000,000. Will the luck of the Irish hold good for a second week running? We’ll just have to wait and see...
