Irish EuroMillions Syndicate ‘Dumbstruck’ after Claiming €66 Million Prize

Members of the Irish syndicate which won €66.1 million (£50.3 million) in the EuroMillions draw on Friday 29th January have thanked their ‘enormous good fortune’ after coming forward to claim their prize. The group of friends, who have decided to remain anonymous, visited lottery headquarters in Dublin on Thursday to receive their money and bring to an end nearly two weeks of speculation about who might hold the winning entry.

The Irish group split a jackpot of €132.3 million (£100.7 million) with a ticket holder from France as the top prize was given away for the first time since the turn of the year. They become the fourth biggest EuroMillions winners ever from Ireland, behind the €115.4 million scooped by Dolores McNamara in July 2005, an anonymous ticket holder who landed €93.9 million in June 2013 and a syndicate from Dublin which grabbed €86.7 million in September 2014.

The man who bought the winning ticket said: “This is by any standards, enormous good fortune. We are completely dumbstruck to have won this fantastic prize. The ads are true; it is riches beyond your wildest dreams, even when it’s shared by a group like this.”

The advantage of playing in a syndicate is that you can purchase more tickets to increase your chances of winning without having to splash out more cash, and in the UK it is estimated that around one in five prizes are won by groups. Whether you wish to join forces with friends, work colleagues, join an online syndicate or go it alone, tonight’s EuroMillions draw offers the chance to win a jackpot of £24 million (€32 million) following two rollovers in a row.

It is Valentine’s Day on Sunday and if you claim a big win you could plan the perfect romantic weekend - perhaps even a quick getaway to Paris. You can buy tickets either online or from authorised retailers in any of the nine participating countries, and you could just become the next player to claim riches beyond your wildest dreams. Good luck!
