Players Set for the Biggest Week in EuroMillions History

More than 15 years after EuroMillions launched, fans of the game are gearing up for the biggest week in the game’s history. Two bumper draws are guaranteed, and it could be that €290 million has been won by the weekend.

€190 Million Jackpot Cap

The first big draw takes place on Tuesday night, with a €190 million jackpot on offer after the top prize again eluded ticket holders on Friday 27th September. The jackpot reached its €190 million cap ahead of the draw on Tuesday 24th September and has gone on to roll over two more times.

The rules of the jackpot cap mean that it can stay at its maximum amount for four draws at the most, before the money has to be won in the following draw. It is therefore possible that the top prize will not be won until Tuesday 8th October.

However, players across Europe will be hoping to win at the earliest opportunity this week, with millions of extra tickets set to be purchased from Madrid to Manchester. It is only the fourth time in history that the jackpot has hit its €190 million, and the estimated value of the top prize in the UK has crept up from £167 million to £169 million over the past week due to the fluctuations of the exchange rate.

Whether the jackpot is won on Tuesday or not, there will be a larger prize fund than normal for winners in the Match 5 + 1 Lucky Star category. This is because the money that would usually be added to the jackpot has to be rolled down to the next tier down. In last Friday’s draw, for example, the four players in this second prize division won £3.5 million (€4.6 million) each.

If the jackpot rolls over, €190 million will once again be put up for grabs on Friday, with more big winners guaranteed in the Match 5 + 1 tier.

€100 Million Superdraw

Even if the top prize is won on Tuesday, the jackpot will be worth €100 million (approximately £90 million) on Friday night. Ordinarily it would reset to its minimum of €17 million after a win, but a Superdraw has been scheduled for Friday 4th October.

Superdraws can offer huge jackpots because they are subsidised by the Booster Fund, which receives a percentage of the prize fund in every draw. If nobody wins the Superdraw, the jackpot can then roll over as normal and it may not even be too long before it climbs back up to its €190 million limit.

The Superdraw will not take place as scheduled on Friday if Tuesday’s draw is a rollover, as the jackpot will already be higher, but another special event is likely to be held in the near future.

A Record Week Beckons

If both jackpots are won this week, it would smash the record for the biggest week of all time for EuroMillions. It has never happened before that the jackpot has been won in the draw immediately before a Superdraw and then in the Superdraw itself.

On the three previous occasions when the maximum jackpot has been won, there has only once been a winner in the following draw too. Back in 2014, a Portuguese participant won €190 million on 24th October and a French player won €15 million next time out, making a total of €205 million for the week.

There are 13 ways to win EuroMillions prizes in every draw and you only have a chance to land the jackpot if you take part. Enter online or buy a ticket from an authorised retailer to join in with this week’s historic events.
