UK EuroMillions Winner To Stay Anonymous After Claiming £77.7 Million Prize

A week on from one of the biggest EuroMillions draws of recent times, and many of the participating countries have been battered by the ‘Beast from the East’ as snow from Siberia disrupts work, travel and everyday life. But the UK player who won half of last Friday’s £155.5 million (€177.7 million) jackpot has found the time to come forward and claim their prize.

Anonymity or Publicity

The lucky winner, now £77.7 million richer, has decided to stay private rather than go public with their story, so no more information will be revealed about them or where they bought their ticket. Andy Carter, the National Lottery’s Senior Winners’ Advisor, said: “It is great to be able to help this ticket-holder celebrate their amazing life-changing prize. They are the tenth biggest winner this country has ever seen and we will now support them as they begin to enjoy their stunning win.”

UK players have the option to stay anonymous or accept publicity when they land a top prize, and a number of the country’s biggest winners have been happy to reveal their names. Winners in other EuroMillions countries can also stay private, but there has been no word yet about the Spanish player who scooped the other half of last Friday’s jackpot. They bought their ticket at the C.C Carrefour Gran Sur-Torres in Cadiz and have 90 days to come forward.

Choose Numbers Online To Beat The Weather

As Europe contends with one of the coldest snaps in recent years, schools have been closing, cars have been left abandoned and shops have been left practically deserted as frustrated masses find themselves practically housebound. Luckily, you can enjoy EuroMillions online, and avoiding the harsh weather is just one of the reasons why you might consider heading to your computer, smartphone and tablet to play the game rather than venturing out to a retailer.

While you may wish to dig out that extra-thick jumper and dash out to buy a EuroMillions ticket in between the showers, a warmer and more convenient alternative is to make yourself a nice hot drink and choose some numbers online.

The risk of the high winds blowing away your EuroMillions ticket may be minimal, but physical entries can be easily lost or damaged. If you buy a ticket from a retailer, you need to present it to claim any prize you win and it must be nicely intact. If this is your preferred method, make sure to keep your ticket somewhere safe and memorable so you can come forward at a time that suits you.

If you enter EuroMillions online, your numbers will be stored securely and there is no danger of them being lost or damaged.

Online Players Don’t Miss out on Prizes

If you play at a retailer, there are a number of ways you can check your tickets. You can go back to a shop and have them looked over, you can use the EuroMillions Checker or take a look at the EuroMillions Results page, which is updated straight after every draw.

Sadly, however, many prizes do go unclaimed every year as players either forget to check their numbers or lose their tickets. Four of the UK players who won £1 million last Friday, across the UK Millionaire Maker and European Millionaire Maker, have yet to claim their prizes.

If you play online, you will be notified of any win and automatically paid out most prizes. If you’re lucky enough to win a large prize online in the UK, you also have extra flexibility when it comes to making a decision over whether to go public or stay anonymous. You can reveal a few details, such as your job, where you live and your initials, whilst keeping private.

The UK National Lottery revealed this week that one such player, known only as ‘Miss K from Kent’ had won £1 million in the Millionaire Maker last Tuesday. Carter said: “Huge congratulations to Miss K for winning this fantastic prize without even touching a ticket – after a few simple clicks she has become a millionaire. With many people leading busy lives, playing online is becoming increasingly popular.”

Pick Numbers Online

If you want to try and win the next big EuroMillions jackpot, you can either dodge the snow and buy a ticket from an authorised retailer or choose numbers online. Good luck!
