100 Millionaires Raffle History
The first ever draw for 100 individual £1 million prizes was held on Friday 27th July 2012 to coincide with the highly anticipated and hugely successful London Olympic games. The UK National Lottery offered the additional Millionaire Raffle prizes to thank the British public for contributing towards the cost of the games through the purchase of Lotto and EuroMillions tickets.
The draw coincided with the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics and smashed the world record for the highest number of millionaires created in a single draw. Of the 100 £1 million prizes available, 97 were claimed.
On Friday 26th July 2013, the 100 UK Millionaires Raffle returned to give another 100 ticket holders the chance to become millionaires. While this raffle draw was not associated with a particular event, the National Lottery had hoped to beat its previous record and create an even higher number of millionaires in a single night. This highly anticipated draw resulted in a huge increase in ticket sales but, in the event, left the previous record unchallenged when only 92 of the 100 £1 million prizes were claimed.
