How a Big EuroMillions Win Drove Lucky Lady ‘Crazy’ at Work

A mother from Essex has revealed how she had to rely on her schoolgirl drama training to stay looking composed in front of her work colleagues, after the discovery of a £1 million win on EuroMillions had sent her ‘leaping about and squealing’ in the corridor.

Jacqui Shannon, a charity manager from Witham, matched one of the winning Millionaire Maker codes on Tuesday 1st November, but ignored messages with ‘news about your ticket’ for three weeks as she assumed she must have just won a small amount. One morning in the office, though, she logged on to check how much she had won and was stunned to find out that she had become a millionaire.

Having calmly told a colleague to ‘hold that thought’, she stepped away from her desk to verify the news and call her husband. She recalled: “I have to admit I went a little crazy in the corridor, leaping about and squealing - and then went back to my desk as calmly as possible, deciding I didn't want to tell anyone until the money really was in my bank account. It was certainly one occasion when my schoolgirl drama training came in handy, as I did my level best to look calm and collected while inside I was screaming 'I'm a millionaire'.”

Jacqui has plenty of plans for the money, and her husband has already bought a BMW 320. She will also be test driving a Mini for herself this week as both of the old family cars were in need of replacing, and she plans to fly out to Dubai soon to visit her sister. Most importantly, though, they can set their son up financially for life.

Jacqui, who fully intends to ‘live the dream’, added: “I've no plans to give up work yet, although I do recognise that this is an opportunity to think about other career options that I previously couldn't have entertained because I needed to help provide for the family. For the first time ever, at 46, I have options and freedom."

If you would like to emulate Jacqui and win £1 million, there will be another two winners of the Millionaire Maker in tonight’s draw. A jackpot of £24 million (€28 million) is also up for grabs following a rollover on Tuesday night, and tickets can be bought online or from authorised retailers in any of the nine participating countries. Best of luck!
