How Ireland Only Raffle Works
Following the conclusion of every EuroMillions draw, Irish players are given an additional opportunity to win a prize of €5,000 courtesy of the Ireland Only Raffle. Included in the price of a ticket, this supplementary game, which was first introduced in September 2016 as part of a number of changes to EuroMillions, sees a unique four-letter, five-number code (e.g. ABCD 12345) printed at the bottom of each Irish playslip. Should a player be able to match this code to one of the ten randomly drawn, they win one of the rewards on offer.
On occasions throughout the year, special draws are held in which one of the lucky ticket holders receives a guaranteed €1 million on top of their Ireland Only Raffle prize of €5,000.
Has This Happened Before?
Offering one player a guaranteed prize of €1 million is far from a new phenomenon. The National Lottery have already hosted two of these draws this year, the first of which was held in February when a ticket holder from Co Leitrim landed a seven-figure sum. “I was absolutely over the moon,” the player told reporters following the win.
The most recent draw was held on Friday 5th May and saw a player from Co Kildare secure the €1 million reward after purchasing their ticket from the Maxol service station in the county town of Naas.
