Is This The Most Understated EuroMillions Celebration Ever?

A bar manager from Durham has big plans for the future after becoming a millionaire on EuroMillions, but his celebrations were far from extravagant and may just be the most understated by anyone who has pocketed a seven-figure sum.

When Kevin Piper, 55, discovered that he had won £1 million in the Mega Week draw on Tuesday 21st February, he still set off for work as he ‘didn’t want to let anyone down’. Rather than mark the success with champagne, he opted for a glass of water when presented with his cheque at Ramside Hall in Durham. He told reporters: “I’m not much of a drinker, I’d rather spend my money on a nice car.”

As well as a new car, Kevin already has his eyes on a new set of golf clubs, while he will think more carefully about his options during a three-week trip to Thailand which he’d already booked as a reward for himself after working over Christmas. He says he will wear the same clothes as he did on last year’s holiday as they are still in his case, but knows he can now start to splash cash to his heart’s content.

“All of my money worries have been taken away. I am planning an upgrade into the best room in the hotel and I will definitely be having the holiday of my dreams – the world is my oyster now following this amazing win,” said Kevin, who is also set to use some of his money on a private hip operation.

Kevin has been a regular winner of smaller prizes on Lotto and EuroMillions and has every intention to keep on playing. In fact, he has already managed to land a couple of prizes since his big win. “I once won £80, a few £25s and £10s and 33 of us won a total of £3,634. But now I have hit the jackpot and last week also won £71 and £2.90 yesterday. If it can happen to me three times, it can happen again.”

Kevin will be able to go in search of a £42 million (€49 million) jackpot in tonight’s draw, and you can try your luck too by choosing numbers online or visiting an authorised retailer in any of the participating countries.
