Kildare Family Scoop €1 Million EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle Prize

A father from Co Kildare has revealed how his family went ‘absolutely wild’ after they discovered they had won an incredible €1 million in Friday night’s EuroMillions draw. The lucky clan will now be in a position to buy a house, which they had previously never thought would be possible.

The family scooped €1,005,000 after matching the special winning code in the Ireland Only Raffle, having bought a EuroMillions ticket on the day of the draw at the Maxol Service Station on Sallins Road in Naas. The Ireland Only Raffle is one of many supplementary games played across Europe, and always guarantees that ten Irish players will win €5,000. There are also occasionally draws where one of the ten winners is randomly selected to receive an additional €1 million, transforming their lives in an instant.

The winners from Kildare found out over the weekend that a local ticket holder had become a millionaire, but ‘didn’t dare to dream’ that they might have won that much, and only had it confirmed when they contacted Irish National lottery officials at the start of the working week. “I don’t usually like Mondays,” the dad joked as he picked up his seven-figure cheque. “We’ve been tearing our hair out all weekend! When we made the call, we went absolutely wild, it’s an unbelievable feeling.”

The family have decided to remain anonymous, but did share their plans for the money. The father added: “We are currently renting a small apartment locally and we have been saving to buy a house but with the current house prices, we never thought we would be in a position to buy. We will pick up some brochures on the way home and start our search straight away.”

While the family from Kildare pocketed over €1 million on Friday, the EuroMillions jackpot rolled over as nobody managed to match all five main numbers and both Lucky Stars. The top prize for tonight’s draw will now be worth a stunning £68 million (€80 million), and you can try to win by either picking your numbers online or visiting an authorised retailer in one of the participating countries. Good luck!
