Powerball Sets Record as EuroMillions Rolls
20th May 2013 9:15 AM
The lottery world was set ablaze on Saturday night when one ticket landed the biggest ever Powerball jackpot – worth around $590.5 million – in the USA. The winning ticket was bought by a player in Florida, and although we don’t yet know who that winner is, we think that the record-breaking achievement will inspire European lottery fans to try and write their own success story with the EuroMillions game. The EuroMillions jackpot rolled over for a sixth time in succession on Friday 17 May, so the midweek jackpot this Tuesday 21 May will be worth around €71 million (around £60 million).
The EuroMillions results for the game played on Friday 17 May were 06, 20, 24, 25 and 50, with the numbers 09 and 10 featuring as the Lucky Stars. Nine tickets matched all five of those main numbers and one of the Lucky Stars to take down a second tier consolation prize of €203,261 (£137,973) each. There were 10 tickets that won €60,978 (£41,392) each by matching five main numbers without either Lucky Star, and 45 tickets matched four main numbers plus two Lucky Stars to win €6,775 (£4,599) each.
1,045 tickets won their owners a fifth tier prize of €255 (£173) each by matching four main numbers and one Lucky Star, and the total number of consolation prizes landed on Friday was 2,840,888. For the benefit of readers in the UK, the winning Millionaire Raffle number on Friday (which is worth £1 million if your EuroMillions ticket bears the same) was VMT980499.
Followers of the most overdue and most often picked EuroMillions numbers caught one main number each in the latest game – the number 06 was one of the most overdue and the number 50 was one of the most often picked. The most overdue numbers as we head into the next game are 47, 18, 09, 31 and 23, and the Lucky Stars to consider are 08 and 01. The most often picked numbers are unchanged: the most often picked main numbers are 50, 04, 44, 11 and 19, whilst the most often picked Lucky Star numbers are 03 and 05.
It is very likely that demand for tickets will spike dramatically as the time of the €71 million jackpot draw approaches, so visit this page to buy your tickets online ahead of the rush and good luck!
