Record Euromillions Winner From Largs, Scotland

The big news today is that the record Euromillions winner is from Largs, Scotland. Colin and Christine Weir scooped the jackpot on Tuesday 12th July on draw number 397. The couple were unveiled as the winners today at a press conference at the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel and Spa in Polmont near Falkirk. The couple from Largs near Glasgow are, as we can all imagine, overjoyed! Reports earlier today suggested that the winning ticket was purchased at a McColls store in Largs.

Some interesting facts about the Euromillions win:

  • The couple are now reported to be 430th in the Sunday Times Rich List
  • The winner/s now take a couple of lottery titles – the biggest Scottish Winners, the winner/s of the Biggest Euromillions Jackpot and the largest Single Euromillions Winner.

Another notable fact, not often mentioned in the press, is that this was the first win on a Euromillions lottery draw since the Jackpot Cap rule was put into place on 6th March 2009. Whilst the previous draw, draw number 396, was actually the first draw to take the prize pool to the Jackpot Cap, draw number 397 was the lucky draw for Christine and Colin Weir from Largs in Scotland that produced their winning numbers 17-19-38-42-45 with Lucky Stars 9 and 10.

Whilst tonight’s Euromillions results aren’t going to be nearly as impressive as Tuesday’s draw there is still an estimated €15/£13 million in the prize pool and really, would you complain if you were to have the winning lottery ticket tonight?
