The Drawing: What Happened
Since EuroMillions launched in 2004, Ireland has had 21 jackpot winners. As long as three years had passed without one until the €250 million win in June 2025 — and now this one too. Could it be a Christmas miracle, or just plain old luck of the draw?
The winning numbers in Friday 12 December’s drawing were 7, 25, 30, 37, and 41. The Lucky Stars were 5 and 11. Amazingly, the winner had selected all seven numbers for their ticket. The end result is a gargantuan sum of €17 million.
Darragh O’Dwyer, spokesperson for the National Irish Lottery, claims to be “delighted”, and that “This incredible win comes at a special time of year and is sure to be a huge Christmas surprise for the winner.”
We don’t yet know the identity of the winner, but we do know that the winning ticket was bought at a retail shop in County Cavan. More information is expected to follow, although jackpot winners in Ireland have the right to remain anonymous, making it the winner’s decision whether to publicise the event or not. We will most definitely find out which shop it was, though!
As of the date of the drawing, the winner has until 12th March 2026 to make their claim.
Other Prizes
Aside from the jackpot, over 42,000 tickets in The Emerald Isle won prizes. One very lucky lottery player from Co Limerick managed to win the EuroMillions Plus draw, which amounted to a nifty €500,000 (£439,000) by matching numbers 11, 16, 31, 35 and 38. A player in County Kilkenny won €30,745 (£26,994) by matching five numbers in the main draw.
Ten other players won €5,000 by playing the Ireland Only Raffle. Lottery officials are urging players to check their tickets to find out if they’ve won a prize. Remember, prizes can only go unclaimed for 90 days in Ireland, after which they expire.
If it turns out you have won a prize, be sure to sign your ticket and keep it as safe as you would if Gandalf had given it to you. Lottery officials will be eager to guide you through the prize claiming process.
