Why It’s Important to Check EuroMillions Tickets Carefully

Tonight’s £12 million (€15 million) EuroMillions jackpot would change your life forever, but it isn’t the only prize available that would make you an instant millionaire. UK players are automatically entered into Millionaire Maker and French ticket holders have a My Million code generated on their slips, worth £1 million and €1 million respectively. However, not everyone thinks to check those codes printed on their tickets, meaning some will miss out on a massive payday forever.

Helena Panford of Belfast almost discarded her EuroMillions ticket for the draw on Friday 17th June after checking her numbers against the winning line for the main game and noting she hadn’t matched enough balls for a win. “After checking my numbers I realised I hadn’t won the jackpot,” said Helena, quoted in The Irish News, “but my daughter in Ghana encouraged me to take the ticket to the shop where I purchased it, to be sure.” She followed her daughter’s advice the next day and popped in to see the retailer, where she was told she had matched the Millionaire Maker code and was due a prize of £1 million.

Helena recalled her reaction to the good news, “I immediately dropped to my knees from shock and started to cry.” She now plans to help her family, bring her daughter over to study for a PhD in Northern Ireland and purchase both a house and a car.

Thankfully Helena was persuaded to have her ticket checked, but some players may not even realise their entry into the game carries another chance to make them very wealthy indeed. In the UK, there are currently four unclaimed Millionaire Maker prizes that will expire if the ticket holders do not come forward within 180 days of the winning draw. A player from Preston has until Sunday to claim their seven-figure prize from Tuesday 5th January or it will be donated to the UK National Lottery’s Good Causes fund, along with the interest it has accrued. In addition, there are nine UK Lotto Millionaire Raffle prizes of £1 million outstanding, a game that works in a similar way to Millionaire Maker.

Visit the Millionaire Maker page to find out more about how the supplementary game works and to see the winning codes from the last five draws. You can also enter the Millionaire Maker codes from your EuroMillions tickets at the Millionaire Maker Results Checker page to ensure you don’t miss out on a gigantic windfall.

If you want to join in with tonight’s big money draw, you can buy EuroMillions tickets online or from authorised retailers in any of the participating nations. Make sure you check all parts of your ticket carefully, though!
