Would You Keep Your Cool with a EuroMillions Win?

How do you think you would react if you were to win tonight’s £22 million (€30 million) EuroMillions jackpot? Some people take amazing news in their stride, some will jump around the house, screaming about their good news at the top of their voice, and some, like Rachel Bingham from Bourne in Lincolnshire, will find themselves completely overwhelmed by the situation.

Rachel and husband Rob play both EuroMillions and Lotto on a regular basis and, until Friday 28th August, had only enjoyed a few small wins. However, when medical secretary Rachel popped into town after picking up her youngest daughter from a friend’s house, she was in for a surprise.

The 46-year-old recalled to the Peterborough Telegraph that she was already in a bit of a daydream, remarking that, “I had forgotten my mobile and hadn’t even brushed my hair properly when I walked past McColls Newsagents in West Street and thought I’d check my Lottery tickets.” The shop assistant informed Rachel that she had won a prize in the EuroMillions Mega Friday draw, but all the lottery terminal would reveal was that it was too big to pay out over the counter. “I gasped and my legs went to jelly,” said Rachel, “The lady told me to go to the Post Office just up the road and they’d be able to help.”

The daydream continued at the Post Office where, on being told that she must have won a substantial amount of money, she needed to sit down and sip a glass of water to calm down. The staff behind the counter even had to point out where to sign on the back of the ticket because Rachel had forgotten to take her glasses with her!

Without her mobile phone she couldn’t contact her husband at work and the Post Office staff were unable to find the number either. In addition, she found herself wandering around the market town, trying to remember where she had left her car before being able to return home to call the National Lottery helpline! Eventually, Rachel and Rob were reunited at their house, where they discovered they had won one of ten Mega Friday Millionaire Maker prizes of £1 million and a private island getaway to the Song Saa resort off the coast of Cambodia.

The couple will buy Rachel’s eldest daughter Emily’s wedding dress for her nuptials next year, as well as funding renovations to her home. Her youngest daughter, Louise, has been given a car and the Binghams are paying for Rachel’s parents to jet off on holiday.

Do you think you will find yourself in a tizz like Rachel if you win tonight’s £22 million bounty, or will you spend the evening calmly planning exactly what to do with your newfound wealth? You never really know until it happens to you, so make sure you buy EuroMillions tickets online or from authorised retailers before 7:30pm BST (8:30pm CEST) tonight!
