French Player Wins €157 Million EuroMillions Jackpot

A ticket holder from France has scooped the largest EuroMillions jackpot of the year. They matched all of the numbers in the draw on Tuesday 1st September to win €157 million (£139 million).

More than 32 million entries were submitted for the draw as players across Europe chased one of the biggest prizes ever seen in the game’s history. The winning numbers were revealed to be 4, 8, 10, 33 and 46, with Lucky Stars 8 and 11, and a single participant ended up pocketing the lot.

Check out the EuroMillions Results page for more details about the draw, including a breakdown of all the prizes won in each country and the winning Millionaire Maker code.

Big EuroMillions Winners in France

The winner now has 60 days to come forward and collect their prize. The claim deadline in France had been extended during the coronavirus pandemic, but reverted back to the regular time period from 29th August so the winner has a couple of months to make contact with lottery officials.

The latest jackpot ranks as the third-largest to have ever been won in France. It is the first time that someone from the country has landed a prize worth more than €100 million since March 2013.

It also puts France back level with the United Kingdom on 108 jackpot wins, making them the two most successful EuroMillions countries. Go to the Winner Statistics page for more facts about big winners.

Largest Jackpot of 2020

The jackpot had been climbing since a woman from Dublin banked €49 million on Tuesday 21st July, so it only took 11 consecutive rollovers to push the top prize all the way from its base amount of €17 million up to €157 million.

The jackpot cap was increased to €200 million at the start of February, and this is the closest it has come since then to creating a new record. The biggest win of 2020 had previously been the €144 million claimed by a Spanish ticket holder on 7th July, following a Superdraw a few days earlier.

You won’t have to wait long for another chance to win a nine-figure jackpot. The third Superdraw of the year, following events in February and July, will put up a guaranteed top prize of €130 million (approximately £115 million) on Friday 25th September.

A special Millionaire Maker draw has also been scheduled for 18th September, and in the meantime you can try to win multimillion-pound jackpots every Tuesday and Friday night. Take part online or visit an authorised retailer.
