Player In Spain Wins €51 Million EuroMillions Jackpot

A ticket holder from Spain has become the latest big EuroMillions winner after landing a jackpot worth €51.5 million in Friday’s draw. It is the first EuroMillions jackpot to be won in Spain since ticket sales resumed following the coronavirus lockdown.

The lucky ticket holder is the second jackpot winner from Spain so far this year and the 103rd Spanish winner overall. It’s also the fourth jackpot to be won in the space of a month, after three other jackpots totalling €100 million (£97 million) have been shared between winners in the UK and France since 15th May.

Players in Spain only got the opportunity to start buying EuroMillions tickets again on 18th May, after a two-month suspension of sales due to coronavirus. The country went into a state of alarm on 14th March to try and limit the spread of Covid-19 and the national lottery operator, Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, followed suit, cancelling all lottery draws and suspending ticket sales for multinational games such as EuroMillions.

Now, just a month after lottery games restarted in the country, Spain has added another jackpot winner to its list. It was confirmed over the weekend that the winning ticket was sold at Lottery Administration number 214 in the Aluche neighbourhood of Madrid. The winner has three months to claim the prize and will have the option to remain anonymous once they do, so it may be that no more details about them are released to the public.

The winning numbers from the draw on Friday 12th June were 2, 24, 39, 45, 46, with Lucky Stars 4 and 8. Only the one ticket holder from Spain matched all of those numbers to win the jackpot, which was worth a total of €51,583,717.

One other millionaire was created in Spain on the same night, however, as the winning El Millón code BND31615 was drawn. The winning ticket for that prize was sold at lottery administration number 1 in Alaquàs, Valencia, and will net the lucky ticket holder €1 million.

The only other EuroMillions jackpot to be won in Spain so far this year was the €130 million prize given away in the Superdraw on 7th February. The jackpot, which was also won by a ticket validated in Madrid, was the third-biggest ever won in Spain.

Spanish players - and those in all other participating countries - will have the chance to equal that record on 3rd July, as the next EuroMillions Superdraw is set to take place on that date. Another jackpot worth €130 million (approximately £115 million) will be on offer to anyone who purchases a ticket for the EuroMillions draw taking place on that date. Sales are open now and tickets are available in-store or online.
